About 13 years ago our family began the dementia journey trying to determine if mom got the “family disease”. After years of cognitive decline diagnosis, mom was finally diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2014. Mom is losing her bubbliness as she doesn't talk much anymore but we know the light has gone out for her and she is just “not mom”! Mom no longer can recall me or place me as her daughter. She does seem to recognize my spirit and knows I'm safe. Our family goal is to keep her as safe, comfortable and happy as possible as we care for her at home. I walk for my mom, because damn it, she was a damn good mom and I miss her!
As of February 23, 2023, mom went Home to be with her Lord!
