Support our team for the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's® Event, the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research..
My story starts back in the early 1990's when my grandfather William "Bill" Beutke passed away of Lewy Body Dementia. I was a young 13 year old kid who didn't understand the impact that Dementia and Alzheimer's can have not only an individual but also on a family. Unfortunately 20+ years later it landed on our door step again when my Grandmother Wilma Beutke passed away in 2014. That same year my Mother Kathy (Beutke) Ftacek was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia. I had thought well surely the medical community has made great strides against Alzheimer's and its related illnesses. But to my astonishment, very little progress had been made since I watched by grandpa pass in the early 90's. It is truly hard to watch someone regress literally in front of your eyes. Eventually after battling the disease for 5+ years, my Mother succumbed to the disease in September of 2019. Not a day goes by that I don't miss them, but one thing that Alzheimer's has taught me. Is live for today, because tomorrow is not promised.
