September 22,2022 my mother-in-law left our world and went on to Eternal life. She almost made it to her 91st birthday but dementia and a broken hip kept her from that celebration Instead she celebrates with the Lord and is no longer in pain. The last 12 years as caretaker of Mom had me complaining a lot, but I am so glad we had those years with her. My last weekend with her was meaningful. She taught me a lot about living with dementia She taught me patience, understanding, unconditional love,, compassion, humor, and did I say patience. My good friend Mike Estep gave her a lovely sendoff at graveside and an Alzheimer’s blue flower went by the headstone.
Her last year at At Home Senior Living had her smiling and enjoying life. She was nice, well cared for and very much loved. I dare say it was better than the 10 previous years.
Thanks to all that have helped me cope with mom’s death through my passion for educating people about dementIa. I participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer's because I want to find a cure for this disease before any more family members develop it. I want to educate people on ways to delay the onset with proper nutrition and daily brain activities. I want to give hope to future generations that they may not need to be caretakers to loved ones that hardly know them anymore. I want to get rid of that helpless feeling when taking care of Mom.
Help me in my journey....join with The Pilot Club of Cochran and let's help End it together.
