In 2020, I lost my grandmother to dementia. While she lived to be 93, the last 15 years of her life were spent with progressively deteriorating dementia. In the last few years, she could barely string a coherent sentence together. I can remember moments of clarity where she would light up with a story she wanted to tell or a thought she wanted to communicate, but it would fade away. I wish we could have spent that time together reminiscing and building new memories.
I decided to join the fight because I learned the experience I had was more common than I realized. 1 in 3 seniors dies with Alzheimer's or dementia and it kills more people than breast cancer and prostrate cancer combined. I wish I had known about the amazing resources, support and research provided by the Alzheimer's Association sooner. Families facing Alzheimer's and all other dementia need us now more than ever - and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
