I'm 62 years old and I have Alzheimer's Disease.
It's been a challenging year for me...I transferred from the school I loved, where my children went and where I worked as a K-2 para-educator for many years, to a school that had an opening for a 4-hour lunch/recess position vs. a 6-hour day requiring a significant amount technology that was very challenging for me.
While settling into the new school, I discovered another obstacle that ALZ presented me with...driving. All routes to this school took me on busy roads and I became very tentative about my speed and my vision. Twice I was slapped with hefty fines because I didn't see a school bus stopped on the other side of the road. Those were expensive rides home, not to mention potentially tragic.
Due to my unenviable position, I'm uniquely qualified to talk to folks...whether one-on-one or in a group, about this unwanted path I am on. It is now my mission to kick this disease out of our lives. And, of course, this all takes money, which our family, through the Alzheimer's Association, appreciates with all of our hearts.
With love and gratitude,
Ruth
