This image is of a special friend of mine, Carolyn. She was a kind and loving soul that shared her love in ways beyond words, mostly because Alzheimer's took Carolyn's voice away. Despite this, Carolyn was a beacon of love and happiness for all those who were lucky to know her.
Carolyn and I used to go for walks in the garden to look at the flowers. One day I was walking with her and holding her hand. In one moment, Carolyn said to me clearly "I'm still me." I truly believe that God was speaking through Carolyn in that instance, allowing her to tell us that even though the disease had changed her, she was still in there.
I am sad that Carolyn can no longer be with us, but I imagine she is in a better place walking and talking and smiling down on all those she knew and loved. Carolyn and her family have lost so much to this disease, and I wish I could give them their Carolyn back. All I can do is continue to support the efforts of this organization in finding a cure for other families and their loved ones so that they do not have to go through the same unbearable loss.
Rest in peace, Carolyn. I will miss you always.
