My husband Bob has Alzheimer's. His sister passed away from emphysema and complications of Alzheimer's in Jan 2018. This is a terrible disease. His mother and both grandmothers died from it. His brother also has it; We need to find a cure now!

Bob is getting worse. As far as cost goes, he’s at the top level at Westwind and needs lots of care. He is losing words and is confused a lot. He also sleeps a lot.  He can't do much of anything without help. It's very hard to understand what he tries to tell me. It's hard to watch this progression. When handed a bowl of ice cream with a spoon in it, he tries to suck the end of the spoon. He has no idea where he is or why.  He’s so confused or just out of it all the time. 

 I just take one day at a time. I love my caregivers' group that is supported by these donations.

For most of the time, he is mellow and nice.  But he has days where he is aggressive and mean. Those are the days even I can’t get through to him; I go home crying.

I never get phone calls from him anymore, as he doesn’t know how to ask or even know who I am. He has now been at Westwind for over 2 1/2  years. We will celebrate our 52nd anniversary this year  I miss my best friend and soulmate. 

 I miss the man I married, but embrace the man he is now. 

I am walking for Bob and the memory of his family members. This is a disease that can affect anyone and any family.

I hope there is a "smoking gun" for Bob, but if not, then for his kids and grandkids.
