My grandma Ruby (Minnie) was one of my biggest supporters throughout my childhood. She hosted family events, attended my soccer games, and taught me how to apply makeup and truly love. Whenovef to Reno for college is when everything began to change for Minnie. She became forgetful and eventually needed help with daily tasks. She was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and passed away on May 19th, 2015 due to complications related to this horrible disease. I began walking because I fell in love with the mission and supported the cause with my Sigma Kappa mission. Now I walk because of my enboldended passion for the mission and hope to find a cure for this disease in my lifetime. I founded the team Ruby’s Gems in honor of my grandma and her love for all things blingy. 

Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
