I started Papaw’s Troublemakers after my dad, Noel Dean Staggs, lost his hard fought battle with Alzheimer’s on February 25,2013. My dad was such a hardworking man. He retired from the railroad in 2004 and just 2 short years later was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. I remember being so mad! He had worked so hard all of his life; he and my mom had so many plans just to have Alzheimer’s steal all of that away from them. My mom was my dad’s caregiver for several years. Not only did it steal my dad’s memory but stole all of that time from my mother also. When someone you love has Alzheimer’s you grieve them twice. Once when they lose their memory of you and again when they lose their battle. Since joining The Walk to End Alzheimer’s it has become a passion for me. I want others to know that Alzheimer’s is not just something you get when you get old. My daughters and I make cookies and sell them twice a year to raise money for our team. We know that our $1,000 or $2,000 is a just a drop in the bucket to help end this horrible disease. But, just think about how much we could do if more people would join our fight! I know the first survivor is out there and I want to know that I had a small part in helping find the cure!
