I am proud to walk to honor my mom, Karen Paulus, who continues to battle Alzheimer's every day! The walk remains important and personal to me, as mom is now entering her second year of living in Memory Care at St. Camillus. Caring for a loved one, a parent, with Alzheimer's is a journey of uncertainty, for both the caregiver and the afflicted, where each day, I lose a little bit more of the mom I have always known, yet remain grateful for the signs that indicate she remains the sweet, gentle, kind and loving person she has always been.
As I walk for my mom, I am appreciative of the many family and friends who have continued to support me, and for those who lead the way in demonstrating how to truly care for someone with Alzheimer's.
