Dementia has taken a tremendous toll on my family. Alzheimer’s disease and dementia slowly, but surely robbed my parents of their strength, independent spirit and sense of family. My father passed away eight years ago with Alzheimer’s disease. This past year has been heart-wrenching as vascular dementia has rapidly stolen my mother’s fierce independence and communication skills.
I hate what Alzheimer’s and dementia stole from my family. I hate the constant grief and difficult choices my family has made as caregivers. And I hate that my parents’ great grandchildren will not have the opportunity to be inspired by my parents’ wisdom.
I can’t stand idly by while Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia impact my life and the life of so many others throughout the world. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against dementia — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association® to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us now more than ever — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
