Why am I walking? Why am I asking for your donation? Well, two of my dearest friends lost parents to Alzheimer's, and they lost them years before they actually succumbed to the disease. They watched them slip away, memory by memory, until they no longer recognized their own children. We have clients with Alzheimer's as well, and it's heartbreaking to see their families try to provide them with care, while still juggling their own responsibilities. And it's especially difficult to witness a husband or wife of 60+ years watch their best friend, and a lifetime of shared memories, slip away.
This is why I walk. This is why I ask for your generous donation.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's, and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by2050. For every person currently battling Alzheimer's, or another dementia, an estimated THREE unpaid caregivers are upending their lives and their OWN financial security to care for them. And Alzheimer's is one of the costliest diseases, with a lifetime cost of care of over $350,000. This is someone's retirement. Or the legacy they planned to leave to their children and grandchildren. And heaven forbid they don't have the money for their care, or for their loved one's care.
This disease will touch each and every one of us, in some way, but, together, we can END Alzheimer's disease.
Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
You'll have my eternal gratitude! ~ Kim
