News and Announcements

WALK DAY LOGISTICS:

Walk location: We will gather at the gazebo on Main Street in New Town, located at 5150 Main Street.

Parking: Plenty of free parking is available in the parking lots behind Blaze Pizza and the location of the former American Family Fitness Center.

Registration: Participants are encouraged to register online at https://act.alz.org/wbwalk22. We will also be accepting registrations on Walk Day. The Registration tent opens at 8:30 AM.

Money: We encourage you to use the WTEA app to deposit Walk donations. In addition, cash and check donations can be turned in at the Registration tent. If you are dividing a donation up between team members, be sure to let us know how much money each team member should be credited.

Check-In: If you are already registered and do not have money to turn in, there is no need for you to stop at the Registration tent. Instead, you can go directly to the Promise Garden area to pick up and personalize your Promise Garden flower.

T-shirts: Registered individuals who have raised $100 or more are eligible to receive a T-shirt. Participants who raised $100 before Sept. 22 should receive their Walk T-shirt in the mail before Walk Day. An official 2022 Walk T-shirt will be mailed to all registered individuals who raise $100+ by Dec 31. Please note – we will not have T-shirts to distribute on Walk Day.

Promise Garden Flowers Every registered walker will receive a Promise Garden flower. Be sure to pick up your Promise Garden flower before the Opening Ceremony. The different flower colors represent our relationship to Alzheimer’s disease:

• Blue – I have Alzheimer’s disease
• Yellow – I am caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease
• Purple – I have lost someone to Alzheimer’s disease
• Orange – I am an advocate for those with Alzheimer’s disease

Please note: Participants are limited to one flower each, so pick the color which best represents your relation to the cause.

Team Photos will be taken in front of the WTEA backdrop located along the fence bordering Ironbound Rd. Please share your photos on social media and use the hashtags #Walk2EndAlz and #ShowYourPurple.

Caregivers Tent New this year – a Caregivers Tent will provide a shaded, quiet area for caregivers and their loved ones who might need a break from the ongoing activities.

Kids Area We’ll have bubbles, balloons, and sidewalk chalk for the young ones and the young at heart!

Walk Route The Walk begins at the gazebo on Main Street and will take participants through the residential areas of New Town. Both a 1 mile and a 3 mile option are available. A volunteer will distribute a map at the beginning of the Walk route, and volunteers will be stationed along the route to direct you.

Opening Ceremony begins at 9:40 AM.

Closing Ceremony: The Closing Ceremony will begin when all walkers return, approximately 11:15 AM. We will recognize the top 5 fundraising teams, the top 5 fundraising individuals, and announce fundraising totals to date. There will also be door prizes, but you must be present to win.

Dine & Donate: After the Walk, we encourage you to stay for lunch in New Town. Cogan’s Deli & Sports Pub will donate a portion of their proceeds to the Alzheimer’s Association on Walk Day.
