I'm walking to honor the memory of my grandmother, Doris Eason Shores, my Me-Maw, who died on July 31, 2014, after suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's for 27 years, and to help put an end to this horrific disease that took her life piece by piece. One day, I hope that no one will have to experience the kinds of losses that she and those who cared for her, especially my grandfather and my mother, endured for decades.
