Over the last few years I have walked for several friends and family but this year really hits close to home. My good friend, Dawn and I have worked together, played together and even fought each other at times. She was always such a DIVA and fierce. Then Dawn started having what we thought was panic or anxiety. Shortly after we realized that she was confused and would forget where she was or why she was there. Sometimes she would get lost while driving to well familiar places. Then after many doctor visits and multiple tests, it was confirmed that my sweet Dawn had Alzheimer's Dementia. She was only 57 years old. We are about 3 years into her journey and overall she is well. Her husband Gerald is her caregiver and takes really good care of her, but often gets weary. The beautiful vibrant woman he married is slowly being deprived of memory all before his eyes and there is nothing he can do to stop it. This year I dedicate my walk to Dawn, whom I call Fiona (long funny story), with hope of survival. One day, we are going to have a cure and someone has to claim "FIRST", so Here's to you Fiona...our prayer is that the first is you!!
