My inspiration for participating ? For over 7 years , 24/7 I watched my mother go from a very strong, independent, sharp minded woman who loved to learn new things and crafts, to a frail shell of a person with an empty look in her eyes,who couldn't remember anyone or anything. I wouldn't wish this on anyone ! Alzheimers not only effects the individual, but also the caregivers,family and friends. My mothers sole wish was to live out her life in her home, and not to be in a nursing home. I honored that wish as hard as it was. It took it's toll on me also healthwise. Alzheimer's is devastating , and doesn't discriminate as to who it destroys !

I am honoring my mother Mary Alice Gallagher , for the 7th year by my participation in this walk.

What the Walk to End Alzheimer's means to me ? It's not only to honor my mother, who passed away from it, but also to raise awareness of this horrid disease, and to hopefully be a part of ending Alzheimers and it's devastating effects !
