Each year we participate in this event to honor Russell Bruton (Grandpa Russ), who passed away due to complications of the ugly monster... Alzheimer's.
We all knew him as Grandpa Russ.
Grandpa Russ was full of life, love, and laughter. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend. Even his doctors and nurses loved him.
He was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was the perfect host and entertainer, even in his hospital room! He would offer you a seat, something to drink, want YOU to be comfortable.
If you knew him, you loved him, and were sure to laugh, alot! He had great love for family & friends, and THE BEST sense of humor. Always the joker, you could count on a good belly laugh when around Grandpa Russ!
When Grandpa was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, it was a couple years after subtle symptoms appeared. Mood changes, forgetting or imagining conversations we had, and trouble managing finances.
However, we were lucky. Grandpa Russ had a high functioning type dementia where even until the end, he did not forget anyone, or his past.
There is no one type of Alzheimer's. Grandpa Russ had THREE siblings that have all passed away from complications of Alzheimers, in varying degrees. His two sisters Aunt Marge and Aunt Sue, and his brother Uncle Louis.
All four siblings left us within about an 8-year time span. All four had varying degrees of Alzheimer's. We need a cure. NOW!
Loved and forever missed, we do this to honor you... Grandpa Russ, Aunt Marge, Uncle Louis, & Aunt Sue.
