This is my 7th year participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's, and I am honored to be the 2022 Yaphank Walk Co-Chairperson.
I walk not only to honor my mother, but also for her cousin and the millions of other Americans affected by this devastating disease.
The statistics are shocking – Alzheimer’s is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. There are 6 million Americans living with the disease and 16 million more providing unpaid care (families and friends). Almost every day, I encounter someone struggling with the impact of caring for someone with memory loss. There is no cure or treatment and the financial impact can be devastating.
The years I spent caring and advocating for my mother changed me forever. That is why I've devoted myself to raising funds to support research, education and services. I also volunteer. I facilitate an Alzheimer's Caregivers' Support Group in my community and work with my Congressman and Senator to advocate for funding and legislation to find a treatment, a cure and ensure programs and services are available to all people and their families suffering with Alzheimer's and other dementias. I also serve on the Long Island Chapter Board of Directors.
Please help us save the memories of those we love. For those of you who have supported my fundraising efforts in the past – thank you! I would be so grateful if you would consider supporting me again.
