Walk to End Alzheimers 2022 - For this walk, I celebrate my Dad.
It is Fathers Day and for the 2022 Walk - I celebrate my dad . Dad suffered from this cruel disease for four + years. For dad and so many others- I gladly take part in this walk.
My father gave me the greatest gift anyone can give a person. He believed in me and was always telling me how proud he was of me.
Now, it is my turn to “pay it forward” by being involved in the journey to one day - Live in a World with No More Alzheimers.
Our dad’s disease had a slow progression. However, as time went on - it became clear that the disease was taking its toll. This reality hit my sisters and I hard. To see the man he became- while also remembering the man he was.. The feeling was beyond words.
Dad passed away on February 24, 2022. Living so far away -I was still lucky enough to visit with him 3 times in February and tell him how proud I was that he was my dad. He put his arm around me; gave me a big kiss and said ‘It goes both ways”.
I will always cherish those moments.
Please note that there are more than 6 million Americans living with Alzheimers and other dementias. The cost of caring for these patients was estimated to total $355 billion in 2021 and increasing to more than 1.1 trillion by mid century.( in todays’ dollars)..
This is a staggering amount. We have a lot of work to do.
I know dad would be proud of my efforts to END Alzheimers. Our extended family has also experienced Alzheimers and other forms of Dementia. Gary’s mom and dad ( Rosalie and Otto); Nancy’s Grandmother - Ella and our brother in law’s mom Rita Fosse.
We continue to walk in their honor in order that future generations won’t have to suffer the ravages of this disease.
Our Walk is on September 24, 2022. I will provide further details in the coming weeks.
Please join us. With your support, we can make a difference.
