My Dad worked 2 jobs for 31 years to take care of us. When he lost his job to a layoff/buyout, the disease progressed in a big way because he no longer any use of his mental faculties as he did on the job. It was very hard to see him decline so fast mentally, and it impacted me greatly on Christmas of 1995 when I came home and he no longer knew me as his son.
It took a long time to understand how to deal with the pain and the helplessness of not knowing what to do. For years I tried to deal with that unsuccessfully, and then one day I woke up and had a fire to help others that have gone through what I have, if not worse. That is why I am here today, and everyday, to spread awareness of the disease and denying that this condition exists will somehow magically make it go away.
Join me to be a part of the solution!
Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association® to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us now more than ever — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
Thank you!
