This year will be the TENTH YEAR that the "Just Keep Swimming" Walk to End Alzheimer's team has raised awareness and funds for the Alzheimer's Association in order to support Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
My mother, Marie, passed away at age 72 in 2018 after suffering for several years from Alzheimer's. She left behind a husband of almost 49 years, three daughters and our spouses, along with six granddaughters. We were devastated by the decline and loss of our matriarch.
She was an amazing woman who loved being a teacher, mother, and wife! She was an avid reader and passed that love on to her family and students. She had an unconditional love for her family and supported them with a passion. She instilled a love of birthday celebrations, holidays, family activities, and seasonal decorations for our home. Additionally, she was a world class shopper and passed that trait on to her daughters and granddaughters. She was a person who always had a smile, never met a stranger, and could quickly be at ease talking with anyone she met.
The team's fundraising over the years is a reflection of this love that she shared with everyone in her life! With the help of so many, the team has raised over $142,000! I could not be more grateful for all of the support and love received during her decline and our fundraising efforts!
