I'm walking to help find a way to prevent this disease that took my dad away from us. First diagnosed with dementia over 10 years ago, dad progressively got worse and it was heartbreaking to watch a self sufficient, proud man struggle daily to maintain his dignity.  We watched his decline and wrestled with the decisions that come with a situation like that. Dad had always been physical.  He was a farmer, a landscaper and finished his career as a teacher.  He never drank, always went to church and never cursed.  He served on the local mental health board and actually participated in an Alzheimer's study through Duke University many years ago.  To see a strong man with few physical issues struggle with a disease that has no cure was heartbreaking.  We lost my dad to Alzheimer's July, 2019.  He was 87.  He didn't have to die so soon, we could have had more time with him.

Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.

I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's.  For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.

Thank you for joining the movement! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts with you.
