This year we lost my father-in-law, Leo Gonia, jr. to dementia after having it for about 6 years. He passed on 01.19.22
My sister was diagnosed with dementia, at the early age of 56. Though we do not know which form at this time. But the signs are visible. Age is not a factor to the villain called Alzheimer's (or, any other dementia).
This is why I started Memories Matter in Michigan. For those I love. And I continue to walk. For my sister. For the loss of my dad and my father-in-law. Memories don't just matter in Michigan to me. They matter everywhere. So help me fight by donating today!
FACTS FOR YOU: Because this is why I'm walking to help reclaim the future for millions. By participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's(R), I'm committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer's research, care and support. It's not just a once a year thing. It's embeded in me 365 days a year. I fight daily to bring awareness. To help #EndAlz.
1 in 3 seniors die with dementia or Alzheimer's Currently.
More than 6 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is growing. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
COVID-19 isn't helping with this either. There has been 16% deaths during COVID-19.
It doesn't care what skin color you are, your religion, age...
From 2000-2019 Heart disease has decreased by 7.3%. Alzheimer's..INCREASED 145%.
There is no discrimination. It has taken from all walks of life. From the every day person making a living to the talented and wealthy.
I ASK THIS OF YOU..
I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
Just $10 would mean something. So skip that coffee at Starbucks, that shake at Tropical Smoothie and donate today.
Thank you for joining the movement! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts with you.
Thank you for helping advance Alzheimer's support, care and research.
