I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Over the years, my neighbor, Sally, has become my go to person for house renovation and gardening ideas. I bumped into her recently at a senior living facility and learned that her mom who had Alzheimer's Disease had passed away a couple of weekends ago. With tears welling up, Sally said her mom's death surprised her.
In 2017, Sally noticed her mom having difficulty managing her checking accounts and running her business like she had always done. Her mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. Sally had also watched her dad succumb to Alzheimer's Disease and decided to be her mom's caregiver. She spent an increasing amount of time with her mom and grew closer to her. "You really don't sweat the small stuff when you are faced with a terminal disease."
Her mom's whole life had been devoted to acts of love through service, doing something for others. In her small town she planted and maintained flowers, embraced and was embraced by many.
That is the mom, Sally will remember.
Thank you for helping advance Alzheimer's support, care and research.
