The team page photo you see here was taken on August 15, 2015. This was a great summer, we posted up in a rental on the beach that served as the Oswald (+Lauer+Bergers) and Bauer homebase for the week. I would guess around this time Nancy (red shirt) was mild/moderate stage but was living at home with husband Donnie and not yet in need of outside help. Harold (yellow polo) was settled into retirement but he and Gail weren't full-time living at the beach just yet. They were still living in Baltimore on Bottom Road. Gail would retire in the next summer (2016) when Harold was showing some signs of his own early stage dimentia, they'd permanently relocate to the shore, and we'd move our family-led Walk to End Alzheimer's team from Baltimore to Salisbury and rename our team the "Bauer Beach Bunch".
In 2021 our families decided to bolster our fundraising efforts for the walk by hosting a golf tournament in honor of Nancy and Harold. The "Drive to End Alzheimers", played at Eagles Nest in Baltimore County, was a great first year success and so we're giving it another go in 2022.
Today, Nancy lives full time in memory care and is visited often by husband Donnie and her children and loved ones.
Sadly, we lost Harold on August 25, 2022 due to complications from his progressing Alzheimer’s. He was hospitalized in June for an infection that induced delirium and thrust him into end stage. His family and those who knew him and loved him are heartbroken.
Our families, like so many others, have been deeply wounded by the cruelty of Alzheimers disease. We are passionate about making an impact in awareness and research for future generations. Thank you for your support.
