The world has changed and changed dramatically over the last few years. Covid-19 and the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and look at what inflation is doing to gas prices.
Covid-19 contributed to a 17% increase in Alzheimer's and dementia deaths. Today, approximately 6 million people live with Alzheimer's or some other related dementia. That number is projected to double to almost 13 million people by 2050. In 2022, Alzheimer's and other dementias will cost the nation $321 billion, and by 2050, that cost could reach one trillion!
My Mom had dementia. I watched the effect that this disease had on my Mom. The progression of dementia during my Mom's final years, had a profound effect on me.
I got involved with the Alzheimer's Association years ago as a donor. A few years ago, I stepped up as a Walker at the Annual Walk. The last couple of years, while still a contributor and walker, I now serve on the planning committee, and my office is a sponsor to the Walk.
Today, I am hoping you will help us out. There is an African saying -- if you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together. I hope you will join us as we take up the challenge of finding a cure for Alzheimer's.
Thank you!
