My grandmother, Millie Franklin, passed away from Alzheimer's on September 12, 2016. Being my grandmother’s only grandchild, she and I always felt a special connection to each other. When I was young, she loved to pull out the astrology book and show me the association between our birthdays – a connection that made us “soul mates.”
Throughout my entire life, my grandmother has influenced, supported, encouraged, and entertained me. To lose her to Alzheimer’s was devastating. Yet I still remember those Christmas Eves where we would stay up and talk until dawn; I’ll always remember the trips my family and I took with her; and I will cherish all of the fun times we had. And I will always remember her every time I find myself playing one of her favorite records.
Though I only had the pleasure of knowing her for 12 years, the lessons I learned and the love I received from my grandmother will last a lifetime. I, and many others, will forever be thankful for the wonderful times shared with Mom Mom
