My work at the Alzheimer's Association started in memory of my Grandpa Don, who passed away just before Christmas in 2016 with vascular dementia. My Grandma Martha, his wife of more than 60 years, selflessly provided care to the love of her life during those difficult final years.
This is a difficult and all too common experience. Caleb's grandmother and my Grandma Rita's sister suffered from Alzheimer's disease. More than 110,000 Hoosiers are living with Alzheimer's or dementia, and more than 215,000 provide unpaid care.
Luckily, the Alzheimer's Association is here to help. We lead and fund research so that some day there will be a way to slow, stop or prevent Alzheimer's disease. We also help those living with dementia and their caregivers today through a 24/7 Helpline, local education programs, support groups and more.
