I plan to be walking again this year to END Alzheimer’s. This will be my 7th walk to raise awareness, money and support for the Alzheimer's Association.
I hope that you will consider joining Team Barber for this year’s walk by either walking with us this November 5th and/or donating.
I am walking and involved because the love of my life and wife Molly has this terrible disease. She has early onset Alzheimer’s and has been battling now for nine years. No one thinks about someone having dementia in their early 50’s but it does happen and seems so unfair. After many doctor visits, we finally got the diagnosis of Posterior Cortical Atrophy (PCA) caused by Alzheimer's. At that time I did not know that there was no cure, treatment or way to slow this bastard of a disease down, with all the brilliant people in this world we have to find a cure!!
I have become the primary caregiver for Molly, and I know if the tables were turned Molly would be there for me. Caregiving is a 24/7 job. Friends often ask how Molly is doing. I want to say she is getting much better thankyou. But that does not happen, things only get worse and normal every day activities are harder or require help.
This past year with Covid-19 has been difficult for everyone. We are hating this pandemic and it isolation. We have a wonderful caregiver/helper for Molly and me who takes some of the domestic task and caregiving duties off me. Molly had resisted this for a long time but now loves having the companionship and help. After seeing the situation this last year in the assisted living facilities we are more committed to living independently as long as possible.
God doesn't put more in our lives than we can handle, and I fully believe that a cure exists although is yet to be found. All the donations we raise will go straight to the necessary research to prevent this disease from causing more harm than it already has, not only in our family, but all the families affected by Alzheimer's
I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
Thank you for joining the movement! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts with you.
