My name is Ben Miller and my Grandma, (aka Beeba as I like to call her) has Alzheimer's. I have always been very connected with my Beeba and she has always been my biggest fan. Several years ago when her memory and verbal skills started to fade I decided to connect with her through music, singing and dance. I like to sing, and she loves my voice (well, of course she does, she is my Beeba!). I played old nostalgic music for her like, the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Billy Joel, Elton John and many more. When I sing to her or asked her to dance to these songs, her face lights up, she hums along, always clapping with joy and even finishing the line to a favorite tune. And when we dance, her physical ability seems effortless. I have been advocating for the Alzheimer's Association for several years now and sharing my music and talent for many of their fundraisers throughout the years. This November, I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's on Team Beeba. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 14 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer's!
With hope and music in my heart,
Ben
