Alzheimer's disease doesn't only affect the patient; it affects the entire family. We’ve shed many tears after my father's diagnosis, but crying doesn't help my dad, my family or others affected by the disease. Because of Alzheimer's my dad has slowly deteriorated from a fun-loving, hard working volunteer, the one you could always rely on for anything, to a man unable express himself and his love for his family and friends.
While there has been no cure whatsoever, support, research, and information is key for the family. Knowledge and experience from others has guided us through this together as a family, and made us stronger (especially my mom!) My kids and I will walk to raise money for programs that are needed to help other families get through this in a loving respectful way.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
