In 2020, I lost my grandmother to dementia. While she lived to be 93, the last 15 years of her life were spent with progressively deteriorating dementia. I the last few years, she could barely string a coherent sentence together. I can remember moments of clarity where she would light up with a story she wanted to tell or a thought she wanted to communicate, but it would fade away. I wish we could have spent that time together reminiscing and building new memories.
I decided to join the fight because I learned the experience I had was more common than I realized. 1 in 3 seniors dies with Alzheimer's or dementia and it kills more people than breast cancer and prostrate cancer combined. I wish I had known about the amazing resources, support and research provided by the Alzheimer's Association sooner. Families facing Alzheimer's and all other dementia need us now more than ever - and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
