This is my 50th birthday year. Mom would have been 80 in September. My birthday wish is for their to finally be a CURE. Please help me with my special wish on this milestone birthday!
We are The Elkins sisters. We lost our Mom September 2017 to Alzheimer's. As sisters, we watched our Mom, Kathy, fade away from the disease in just four short years. At the end of our Mom’s journey she could no longer walk, talk, or feed herself. She cried all the time. Not hearing her speak and say “I love you” was torture. Alzheimer's impact was fast and devastating watch, we felt helpless. Our hearts ached to watch her decline into a helpless child like shell. We all breathed a sigh of a relief when she passed. We honor her with the commitment to find a cure and walk in her honor. Our goal and hope is by helping raise funds for this disease, there will soon be a Cure!
Why Silly Sisters for the team name you wonder? That is simple…it is what Mommy called us when she heard us giggling and playing! As grown ups we still giggle often when together.
We have heard that when a patient with cancer looks at themselves in the mirror, they see a mutated version of themselves. For those suffering with Alzheimer's, they no longer see their reflection that others see. They also don't see the reflection of the others they love. Alzheimer's is a unforgiving disease that takes the memories we have built over a lifetime away.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer's!
