I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 14 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
I have heard many people talk about their loved ones who are or went through Alzheimers/dementia. It was heartbreaking hearing their experiences. It hit me personally when my precious Dad, Ted Moynihan, was diagnosed with dementia in 2015. Dad endured many challenges and struggles as the disease progressed. Ultimately, Dad had to move into a nursing home where there was a Memory Care Unit. Dad passed away from COVID in May of last year (2020) holding the hand of his love of his life, Mom. Alzheimer's /dementia will always remain in my life having experiencing seeing a parent with this horrible disease. I am determined to participate in my first walk in the memory of my dad and other folks I have heard about. The stories and my Dad's journey has inspired me to ensure that we put an end to Alzheimer's/dementia, and we are the future.
My team, the Townline, is a tribute to Dad. Dad was a newspaper columnist who had a weekly column called the Townline. In his columns he wrote about everything in every aspect of life including loss of people, his dear family, hearttouching stories growing up, and Wallingford, the town he lived in for most of his life. Actually he was proud to call Yalesville (a part of the town) his home. My family theme is "'we Are Family" is a way to show that we are a team striving to do as much to support many causes for research and put an end to them. I believe strongly that we ALL can put an end to this cause, Alzheimer's Disease and related diseases if each one of you contribute. I am asking personally to make a donation to the Townline team by donating whatever you can---each penny counts! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
