I was 13 when my family first started caring for my grandmother who suffered from Alzheimer's. My mom often referred to her generation as the "Sandwich Generation," as she cared for her mom while trying to raise me and work a full-time job. Ultimately, my mom had to cut her working hours and I jumped in to help, taking care of Grandma after school before Mom got off work. My dad, too, found himself with extra responsibilities around the house as he worked to support Mom.
It's because of this experience that I'm raising money through Walk to End Alzheimer's. Not just for the people diagnosed with Alzheimer's, but for the families, the caregivers, and everyone that is affected by a loved one's diagnosis. If Alzheimer's has affected your family or loved ones, too, please consider making a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising. Together, we can work to end Alzheimer's disease.
