Mom went to Heaven on July 26, 2021, after an eight year struggle with Alzheimer's and cancer. She handled both with courage and positivity and proactivity. She - and we, her family - did everything possible to make her life healthier and better along the way. As the Alzheimer's progressed, Mom would ask, "How am I doing? Do you think I'm still OK?" Sometimes the answer was yes, and sometimes no, but still, she asked as long as she could.
In the end, those two rotten diseases duked it out in her body and mind, but not in her tough-as-nails Irish spirit. She was scrappy and stronger than we could believe. Mom had the kindest, caring, most compassionate support from Housecalls Hospice and her personal angels, caregivers Brenda, Cindy, Kris and Angie. I am walking this year to honor all of Team Harriette, because they made the last few months of her life safe, comfortable, and so very loving. Be positive, be proactive, and stay scrappy.
Thank you for helping advance Alzheimer's support, care and research.
