"Tacoma's Walk Stars" will be walking everywhere this year, to raise funds and awareness about Alzheimer's Disease. http://act.alz.org/goto/Walk2EndAlz_KarenWilson
I attach my Walk to End Alzheimer’s team to the Tacoma Walk, because this is the community where I was raised; and it’s where my dad, and so many of the “parents” of my youth still live, some of whom are currently battling this disease --- but there are 16 Walk to End Alzheimer’s events like this across the state, and 600 nationwide. Every dollar from every event makes a difference.
During COVID-19, I have seen my colleagues shift in a moment, to transition support services to virtual delivery. I have heard stories of caregivers hospitalized with COVID, struggling to find care for their loved one with dementia as they battle their own illness. I have seen our development team create virtual Walks with locally-produced opening ceremonies and physical promise garden locations in each and every market, only to have air quality cause six of these events to be rescheduled. The efforts continue and the work forges ahead; because it’s so very important.
When you contribute to my Walk team:
-You are supporting more than 120,000 people in our state and over 5 million nationwide who are living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia.
-You are helping more than 350,000 unpaid family caregivers in Washington state to access support groups, resources, and education, as they navigate the progression of their loved one’s disease.
-You are funding a 24/7 helpline, staffed with master’s-level social workers who can connect people to these services, or just provide a listening ear and confidential support.
-And yes, you are funding cutting edge research that will lead to a cure.
Thank you for contributing to my Walk to End Alzheimer’s Walk team --- you are making a difference, and I appreciate you.
If you or anyone you know needs help, the Alzheimer’s Association 24/7 Helpline (1-800-272-3900) is available around the clock, 365 days a year.
