Hello Family & Friends - as you know my mother, Santina Fisher, better known as "Sandy," was diagnosed with Alzheimer's around 2008. My mom was a brilliant, funny, creative, high-spirited woman. She was the life of the party and had a huge generous heart. Alzheimer's is a disease of the brain that doesn't care how smart you are, or how kind or funny. I know my family is not alone when we try to figure out how could our mom have Alzheimer's, this just didn't seem realistic or possible.
I do know that my mom was still the same person, she was just buried inside and she wasn't able to breakthrough this disease and come back to us as we remembered her. But through all of this, you have to hold onto your old memories, and create new ones with your mom or loved one that's afflicted with this disease. They're just different kinds of memories.
For all of you out there that has a loved one that has suffered with this disease, my heart goes out to you and your families, but know you are not alone.
