My mom, Harriet has suffered for years with Alzheimer's disease, which ironically, was her worst fear. My dad and his "village" of caregivers; daughter, son, home health aids, adult day program workers, hair dresser, podiatrist, neighbors and friends, church, PCP office help give her a quality of life while her ability to care for herself continues to diminish. The drain of energy and funds can be astounding, but there is always hope. Every moment that there is a "Connection" with my mom of recognition, of her humor and witty comebacks are a blessing that brings welcome laughter. I'll try to walk every year to work toward hope of a cure of the awful disease.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
