Update: My sweet Mama, Melanie went to be with The Lord February 26th, 2019 four days after she turned 69 years old. She had an incident while eating (aspirating) and was never ever to recover. Still figuring out life after Mom’s passing, but will never give up my fight to help end this terrible disease!
I never thought in a million years my mother would have early onset Alzheimer's Disease.
Nine years ago I started noticing a change in my mother, Melanie and knew I had to get answers. I had an idea of what it might be, but since she was so young I had to fight to get a diagnosis. After countless doctor visits and numerous doctors and neurologists we got heart breaking news. ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE. My mom was 60 years old.
There are good days and bad days and as time goes on I am left to trust in God that our family will make it through this terrible chapter in our lives. The hardest part for me that I am raising 5 & 4 year old daughters and a son who is 2. My mother is not beside me to enjoy her grandchildren and give me her motherly advice. Her disease has progressed so rapidly that she has been in a memory care facility for the past six years. One of the hardest things I have ever had to do is put my mom in "a home" but I am confident with our decision and know that she is happy, safe and getting the best care possible. My beautiful children and I visit every week, but it isn't the same. My mom is slowly slipping away...
Please join our team, Melanie's Memories Matter to help fight ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE and hopefully save other daughters & sons from losing their parents entirely too soon!!
Believe in God, in family and a cure!
