Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer'.s My mom passed away from a stroke but had Alzheimer’s, my sister turned 63 in May and on Mother’s Day she was good, two weeks later she started to get snappy and irritable and just “off” I truly kept making excuses for the change in her behavior, one Sunday afternoon I couldn’t make any more excuses, my husband and I went to her house to check on her car. She had told me she had to be towed home. She was in fact towed home by 2 men and to this day we have no clue who they were; but thank God they were nice and brought her home and did not take her car and leave her for dead! On that Sunday, we begged her to go to the ER thinking maybe she had a UTI (which causes confusion in the elderly) she was not having it! Long story short, Mindy my oldest went to her house on Monday and “convinced her to go to the ER, they mentioned dementia because there was no UTI , well that was not what we wanted to hear so I took her on Tuesday to her pcp, who I work for and just knew he would give me a better diagnosis, nope he told me “severe sudden onset a vascular dementia.” Well that’s not good, it went from her working in the church nursery to my family having to fix her meals, giving her meds and doing her insulin injections! Basically we are doing everything for her, no matter how together you think you are. In a blink of an eye it can change I pray from the bottom of my heart you never face this disease !! Help find a cure, give a caretaker a break, how you ask, donate, join the walk to help us make a difference so this does not a family twice, in my family it’s been 4 people deal with this! My mom, my uncle, my aunt and now my sister if everyone that reads this YOU HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE!!!! I could not make this journey without the help of my girls, but some people are not as blessed and need a break but can’t because they don’t have family close to help but you can help that caregiver a break! 5$ makes a different! Thank you all! ❤❤❤Debbie
