I have participated by either walking or volunteering for The Walk to End Alzheimer's for the last few years. This year's walk is going to be a lot different for me and my family. In the last few years, I have walked with a yellow flower. However my mother's fierce battle with Alzheimer's ended on Memorial Day 2020, I will be walking with a purple flower from here on out. Ironically purple was my Mother's favorite color.
This year has proven to be the hardest to update and post my story for my page. Every year Mom was deteriorating and falling farther away. This year she is gone. I will never be able to listen to Elvis and dance with her again, well watch her dance, haha. To the last day, she could recognize and smile for an Elvis song.
Covid-19 was listed as the cause of death for my Mother. This makes me very angry! I didn't want my mother to be a statistic at all!!! But, I would rather her be the reason and a cause to support Alzheimer's research. I will continue to walk, volunteer, and support The Walk for my Mother, Vickie Bicknell, in hopes she(I) will make a difference for another son, daughter, or other family members.
With the support of family, extended family, co-workers, and you, this year will be the largest fundraising year to date. This year's team was created for Mom as condolence for me. I can't begin to tell you how much it means to be surrounded by this enormous amount of love. Look for us, Team Elvis!
Love, Luck, Laughter, Mom!
