Alzheimer’s has personally impacted the McCarthy Clan. Flory McCarthy passed away on December 10, 2017; Marie McCarthy passed away on February 2, 2020 from Alzheimer's. Aunt Madeline, who received the first diagnosis over 12 years ago, continues to live with Alzheimer's. Every year we walk together. Wherever we are, the "21" are forever together in spirit to battle this disease.
Our team walks to raise awareness, fund research, and promote healthy brain activities. We walk to support our family, friends, caregivers and the communities that have been impacted by this disease. Alzheimer's disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States; the only cause of death among the top 10 in the United States that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed.
We are hopeful that the medical breakthroughs to prevent or cure the disease are close at hand so that our children and grandchildren will live in a world without ALZ. The predictions about the wide reach and devastating effects of dementia and cognitive impairment are staggering. Alzheimer’s researchers are on the cusp of critical discoveries that could lead to future medications and prevention. They need money and volunteers.
We invite you to join the fight for the First Survivor and a better future for everyone affected every day by Alzheimer's. You can help by donating to our team: McCarthy Brainwaves; or to the Alzheimer’s research organization/event of your choice.
