We all know that 2020 was a challenging year. But it was especially difficult for those residing in long term care facilities. The stress of no visitors, limited socialization, and limited activities affected those with Alzheimer's and dementia in unfathomable ways. I was robbed of over a full year of hugs and memories with my dad. When one is non-verbal, physical touch is pretty much all we have. The cognitive decline during this period was painful to observe.
The silver lining in this is that his skilled nursing facility is amazing. Throughout the entire pandemic, they kept him safe, content, happy, and blissfully unaware of the problems of the world. When dealing with this ugly disease, i can not ask for more.
Rather than creating my own team (Cuddy's Crew) again this year, I have partnered with with my dad's nursing home - Respiratory and Rehabilitation Center of RI and joined their team, THE COVENTRY CRUSADERS.
Our team goal is to raise $10,000 for the Alzheimer's Association. In 2018, i personally raised just over $3000. And I came very close in 2019. I want to do it again. But I need your help!
Together we can.
I'm walking for all those who can not remember, for those who want to remember, and for their caregivers and family members who are just as much victims of this memory robbing disease. But most importantly, I walk for my dad - for his memory and for all my memories of him.
Please consider a small donation in my dad's honor.
Thank you for helping advance Alzheimer's support, care and research.
