You hear the stories from friends, loved ones suffering from this terrible disease which robs them of their memories. You sympathize with them, but can not imagine what they are going through until it comes into your family. A few years ago my mom, Shirley, was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. You may have heard this name before, this is the disease Robin Williams had when he took his life. At the time of diagnosis she was already showing the fear and anxiety of "forgetting". She got frustrated, called herself dumb. As the disease progressed she forgot where she was, would hallucinate and was "living in the past". She talked in her sleep and when she was sleeping she was back in her classroom talking to her students. We took advantage of her memories of the past and were able to write down stories and memories. My mom had other health issues which lead to her going into skilled care at a nursing home and because of those issues, she did not have to go into the Alzheimer's locked wing. They were able to take great care of her and she passed peacefully on September 13, 2021.
I work for a wonderful company and they have made it a priority to support the Alzheimers Association. Edward Jones is the national sponsor of the Alzheimers Walks and I am proud to to participate and fundraise to help find a cure!
I am walking for my Mom and my family, and all of my friends who have been touched by this terrible disease. Please consider donating to my team.
I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
