This will be my 5th year doing the Walk to End Alzheimer's in honor of my mom. October will be the 6th anniversary of my mother's passing due to Alzheimer's. 2020 has been a crazy year for all of us. With the COVID-19 virus disrupting our lives - it's easy to forget what's still going on in our world. Alzheimer’s has not gone away and is still affecting millions of loved ones.
While binge watching TV over the last few months, we've been watching The Politician. Amazing cast including Ben Platt, Judith Light and Ms Divine - Bette Milder. The story takes place in NYC and has shown scenes from Marie's Crisis, a piano bar where Ben belts out some great tunes. The reason I tell you this is because this is the place where my parents met 64 years ago. The night they met, Mom was sipping Wild Turkey at the corner of the bar while Dad was trying to figure out how he could get the nerve to talk to this woman WAY out of his league. Six months later - they were married (and no mom was not pregnant). Marie's Crisis is where their life story began. They had 58 years together filled with wonderful memories of family, friends and world travel. These memories were all robbed from mom because of Alzheimer’s. I was fortunate enough to have mom remember who I was the last time I saw her alive. That was her last gift to me. Every year I do The Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I consider it a gift to my mother. I honor her and all the love she gave to everyone - never missing a hug or a kiss when she saw you or when you were leaving her home after a wonderful visit filled with her amazing cooking.
This year has been a good year for Alzheimer's research but we are not there yet. We need to find a prevention and a cure for this disease. Please support me in this fight. No person should have their memories stolen from them. No person should have to worry about one day not recognizing their loved ones. No person should have to endure the slow agonizing death of someone they love. This disease is growing at a fast pace and we can stop it but your help is essential. Please join me in fighting Alzheimer's by donating to the walk.
Thank you for helping advance Alzheimer's support, care and research.
