I have been participating in this Walk for over two decades. My family has been hit hard by Alzheimer’s as many of your already know.
Originally, my Mom and I began walking in honor and memory of her brothers, Tommy and Jackie. Today, I walk because my Mom is battling this horrible disease. I can't fully convey to you what these last few years have been like, but suffice it to say, I would not wish this on anyone. Now, with COVID in the mix, the challenges have multiplied. So many of you have been such a great support system for my family throughout this journey. I’m not sure where we would be without you. I continue to be fully committed to my Mom and to ensuring that her quality of life is the best that it can be. I have prayed for many years that a cure would be found in time for her, but clearly it was not meant to be. However, I know she would want me to continue the fight and continue to advocate for those like her. I’m hopeful that by continuing to participate in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's® and with every dollar we raise, we are one step closer to the first Alzheimer's survivor.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
My Team is "Movin' Mountains for Mom" (http://act.alz.org/site/TR?fr_id=13793&pg=team&team_id=642887), please join us!
