Please join me to honor, Joyce. She is my mom and lives with Alzheimer's. Joyce is the most selfless person I know. Before having a family she was an Xray technician and loved helping people, often getting in trouble for spending too much time with each patient. She has raised 6 children, helped start the Association for Learning Disabilities in Forest Hills School District, taken care of aging family members and grandchildren and loves animals. For 40 years of her 79 years Joyce has been a part of a modest, fly- under-the-radar band of musical angels. She and her sisters, niece and mother (before she passed at 93) and aunts and friends with occasional grandchildren and other family member guest volunteers have hauled sound equipment, records, and instruments to entertain and encourage music and movement to all the residents at an extended care community. They would even plan holiday themed "shows" with costumes, gifts and prizes for everyone. Today she and her sisters, friend and niece still carry on the tradition, even running raffle basket fundraisers to support the community. Joyce does not remember any of it. Turn the music on though and she will remarkably start singing the words. She is my hero and role model. For Joyce I walk to find a cure and better care and understanding for those like her. Please join me!
Thank you for helping advance Alzheimer's support, care and research.
