If you're here, you're on my Butler-Warren Walk to End Alzheimers home page. Thanks for coming!!!! I'd like nothing better than to say this is THE LAST YEAR we're doing this - that would mean we have a cure! But I said that last year.....and too many years before that. Are we gaining on it?.....the commitment to research is MUCH improved, and there are some promising developments, but still frustratingly close to the beginning, not the end.
Last year I mentioned that Susan's sister was suffering from Alzheimer's. in 2019 Susan flew to Maine every few weeks to be with Lins - and in 2020 it had to be by Skype or Zoom! Then - in November, 2020 - an otherwise healthy Linsey succumbed to COVID. But so many more people, immediate family and others, are affected when a loved one is afflicted with this horrible disease. It will bankrupt our country if we don't have a breakthrough!
This year we're back in business with a Butler-Warren Walk on Saturday, September 18th in the heart of West Chester, and we - Linsey's sister Susan Butler Noonan and the rest of us - will be walking to honor the memory of her only sister, Linsey Butler Low.
We need to stop this!
The numbers are rising:
- 5.4 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease
- Someone develops this disease every 68 seconds
- Alzheimer's disease is the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S.
- Nearly 55,000 individuals in the Tri-State area are affected, a group that would more than fill Great American Ball Park
As I said, there is no cure. There is no breakthrough yet that gives one hope today. Alzheimer's is the only disease in the top 10 with rapid progression of affected people and no means of arresting the trend. This Walk to End Alzheimer's is EXTREMELY important. Thank you SO MUCH for Participating!
So: here's what we can do - starting NOW. On Saturday, September 18th, starting at 9AM, our team and many others will begin this year's Walk to End Alzheimers. Only this year, we're doing it in the heart of West Chester - Across from Dingle House. Google The Square at Union Centre, 9285 Centre Pointe Drive. We hope to have a pretty large crew, so come early. Should be a lot of fun, you'll enjoy it - great people, great walking course, and....great cause!
Looking forward to seeing you at 9AM September 18th on The Square at Union Centre. For Susan's Sister: LINSEY BUTLER LOW!
GO LAKE LIZARDS!
Thank you for helping advance Alzheimer's support, care and research.
