Alzheimer's disease and dementia affects so many families across the world. My family's story is like so many others. I walk to honor my family members who we've lost to Alzheimer's or dementia, and who dedicated themselves to caregiving: Grandma Marilyn Gabler, Grandpa George Gabler, Grandma Judy Volz, Grandpa Paul Volz, and Great-Grandma Vera Patterson.
I came to the Alzheimer's Association in 2013 seeking guidance shortly after my Grandma Marilyn was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The Association provided educational resources and emotional support as my family navigated through care planning and watching my grandma slowly fade away.
I'm so thankful for the 8 year journey as an Alzheimer's Association staff member, volunteer, and dementia advocate. I walk in memory of my loved ones, but also in honor of the friends I've made along the way. I walk so that, one day, we can live in a world without Alzheimer's and all other dementia.
Please join me in supporting this incredibly valuable mission.
